What’s Happening in Myrtle Beach This Weekend?

Fall is finally here along the Grand Strand, bringing with it a few less tourists, more comfortable temperatures, and a whole host of fun activities for locals of all ages. Kick off your Fall with one of these amazing events taking place this weekend, or go to Visit Myrtle Beach to find out everything that is happening in the area.

Friday September 22nd:

Nature Story Time at Myrtle Beach State Park – 3:00pm – 3:30pm

Spend some time with your youngster and enjoy experiencing the trials and tribulations of hermit crabs while reading an interactive story and even watching live marine hermit crabs eat! Appropriate for ages 4 to 8.

Free with park admission but donations are always appreciated!

The Gaither Vocal Band at The Carolina Opry – 7:00pm

For nearly half a century, Gaither, a multiple Grammy and Dove Award winner, has been a musical trailblazer. His reputation as a performer, songwriter and mentor for newly-discovered artists is known worldwide. His beloved series of Homecoming CDs and DVDs continues to top the sales charts and attract an ever-increasing audience. Honors and accolades have flowed his way in bunches, including his most recent Grammy nomination for Best Roots Gospel Album of the Year for the Gaither Vocal Band Let’s Just Praise The Lord recording.

Taking the stage with Gaither and the Gaither Vocal Band, featuring Wes Hampton, Adam Crabb, Todd Suttles and Reggie Smith, will be popular female vocalist, Ladye Love Smith and talented male vocalist, Gene McDonald, as well as Gaither’s musical entourage, comprised of Kevin Williams, Matthew Holt and Michael Rowsey.

Gaither loves the opportunity to continue to share the message he has been proclaiming for more than six decades. It’s that desire to spread the message of hope through music that keeps the 87-year old Indiana native thriving.

James Stephens III is “The Man of a Thousand Voices” at The Asher Theatre – 7:00pm

COMEDY AT IT’S FINEST! The Asher Theatre is Myrtle Beach’s newest venue to the entertainment scene and showcases the highly acclaimed show: The Man of A Thousand Voices featuring master impressionist and entertainer James Stephens III. You may have seen him on HBO, Showtime, The Tonight Show or many of his national TV appearances. Stephens has a wide range of voices. One minute he’s Chris Rock and Lil Wayne, and the next moment he’s Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan. This triple-threat also plays piano like Duke Ellington, trumpet like Louis Armstrong, dances like Sammy Davis Jr. and sings like everybody!

Saturday September 23rd:

South Atlantic Shrine Association (SASA) Fall Festival Parade at the intersection of Ocean Blvd and 17th Ave South – 9:00am

The South Atlantic Shrine Association (SASA) returns to Myrtle Beach for its 50th annual Fall Festival in September, with a parade set for Saturday, September 23. The parade begins at 9:00 a.m. at the intersection of Ocean Boulevard at 17th Avenue South, and it ends at 29th Avenue South. Everyone’s invited to attend and enjoy the show, with dozens of Shrine temples participating in the event! The parade is part of SASA’s 50th Annual Fall Festival, September 21-25.

Free Children’s Program at the L.W. Paul Living History Farm – between 9:00am and 11:00am

Join us for a free 30 minute activity at the Farm! Parents can sign children up for a half hour session between 9:00am – 11:00am. Group sizes will be limited. Children will learn about the importance of electricity to rural farm families and conduct experiments using static and current electricity.

Crooktoberfest’s Crowning of the Festmaster + Stein Holding Contest at Crooked Hammock Brewery – 5:00pm

Ed Piotrowski, ABC 15’s Chief Meteorologist, will be kicking off all the Crooktoberfest festivities as CHB’s honored Festmaster for the second year in a row. Piotrowski will share a few words and conduct the ceremonial tapping of the firkin, a mallet taken to a mini wooden keg, for a toast. The brewery’s famous Stein Holding Contest will follow shortly after, where beer-drinkers will put their skills to the ultimate test in hopes of winning CHB prizes.

Atlanta Rhythm Section And Firefall at the Alabama Theatre – 7:00pm

We are pleased to announce these two legendary groups, both making their Alabama Theatre debut.

The Atlanta Rhythm Section came together in 1970 as a part of the vibrant Southern Rock scene and has since been entertaining audiences all over the world via their ongoing numerous concert appearances. These Georgia Music Hall of Fame Southerners biggest radio hits include “So into You,” “Champagne Jam,” “Spooky,” the blockbuster “Imaginary Lover” and the top 20 hit, “I’m Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight”.

  Firefall creatively melds country, folk, easy listening and rock and roll to create a country-rock sound that is uniquely their own. With a string of Top 20 hits and both Gold and Platinum albums, they have saturated radio waves and toured to the delight of fans the world over. Their many hits include favorites, “You Are The Woman,” “Strange Way,” “Just Remember I Love” You and “Cinderella.”

End of Summer Bash at Tanger Outlets Myrtle Beach Hwy 17 – 11:00am – 1:00pm

Conway Burger Week Continues through Sunday

Your favorite restaurants have signed up to concoct mouthwatering, outlandish burger creations for a limited time. These delicious culinary creations have been carefully curated by Conway’s Patty Chefs and a full list of burgerlicious offerings will be uploaded on September 10. No sign-up or registration is required, simply preview the Burger Week menus and then go eat!

The 48th Annual Atalaya Arts & Crafts Festival at Atalaya Castle at Huntington Beach State Park Friday at 12:00pm, Saturday and Sunday at 10:00am

Featuring over 100 of the finest artisans, the Atalaya Arts & Crafts Festival provides aesthetic beauty against a background of natural beauty. Enjoy fine art, quality crafts and local food, along with the musical offerings of several of the area’s finest musicians.

Daily admission for the festival is $10 per adult (age 16 and older).

Those ages 15 and under are FREE.
