Conway Real Estate
Conway is one of the oldest towns in South Carolina, established in 1734! For many years, tourists have driven through or by the town on their way to Myrtle Beach, and many have never thought about moving here. But as Myrtle Beach has expanded its residential boundaries, so has Conway. The subdivisions and new construction in and around its downtown have put it right on the border of Myrtle, but offering much lower taxes and prices than you find a few miles south.
If living in resort area is not your preference, prefer less traffic and a hometown ambiance, the beautiful little town of Conway SC may be a perfect fit for you. Located only 12 miles from Myrtle Beach, and similar to the city of Georgetown, Conway is a world away from Myrtle Beach in appearance, culture, and lifestyle. Only a ten-minute drive up Hwy 501 takes you right to the beach.
Conway’s past has been proudly preserved. There are as many as 39 official historic sites claimed by the city fathers, including warehouses, barns, and buildings, as well as distinctive homes. Seventeen of these sites are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Conway has also been recognized as a “Tree City USA” due to its protection of the Lowcountry live oaks and other trees. At several locations on Sixth and Seventh Avenues, and on Elm Street, cars have to drive around these ancient trees instead of the roads having taken the right-of-way. The older stately homes located in downtown Conway’s live oak-lined streets bring the visitor a feeling of having stepped back in time. Much like historic Charleston, some of the homes were built in the early 1800’s, and have been maintained to project the elegant facade in which they were built.
In short, aside from its proximity to the ocean, Conway has its own attractions, and many find it a wonderful place to call home. You can find everything from a luxury waterfront home to a farm home with acreage, or even a starter home in a community with a pool. We invite you to check out some of the new neighborhoods springing up in Conway. Contact one of our Coastal Tide Realty agents to get you started on your Conway, SC home search.
